Garden Mysteries

This spring I thought it would be cool to plant a mixture of random squash seeds. I bought this assortment and my son and I started them in the basement and then transferred them outside. It seemed like a good plan until I started getting things I've never seen before popping up all over the garden. I recognized the zucchini and butternut and crookneck, but there were some that might be pumpkins or melons or something else entirely. I have no idea when to pick them. A friend said just wait until they turn yellow, but what if they never do? No more mystery seed packs for me.
