Corn in Maine

Corn in Maine

When we planted our garden this spring, we put in peas and tomatoes and lettuce and zucchini and basil etc. But when we were at the hardware store, my son spotted the bulk seeds. He decided what we needed was corn. Where I grew up in Texas, corn is a crop -- not a garden vegetable. And honestly I wasn't even sure we'd be able to grow corn here. It was still in the 50's well into mid-June. The stalks are over five feet tall, but now we have the beginnings of actual corn. And every day I go out there and water them and think -- Wow. Seeds are such a miracle.
