Wintering Well

More and more

I find this time of year really tests my perseverance. I'm more than ready for warm weather and growing things, but winter seems determined to stick around. This morning the sun was out and the birds were chasing each other through the trees and now there is sideways snow. And I'm trying to Winter Well, but I'm tired of the ice and snow and frozen toes. I'm ready for fresh vegetables and flip flops and sunshine. But I also know I'm fickle. In July I will be complaining about the bugs and the heat and pulling weeds. So, I remind myself not to despise the day of small things. Zechariah 4:10 (my translation). And I force myself to go outside and enjoy the cold, reminding myself that as long as there is ice on the ground, there are no black flies. And that is not a "small thing."
